This week we caught up Ajahmure “Ajah” Clovis of Her Nails Rock for the deets on her holographic nail design.

The Trend: Holographic nail polish became a huge hit in the nail community shortly after pop star Rihanna was spotted rocking a chic holographic crop-top. This super shiny glaze looks great on all nail lengths when paired with chunky jewels and gems. Have fun creating with this simple DIY. Check out the details below.

EBONY: How did you create the look?

Ajahmure Clovers: I began by applying two coats of turquoise polish to all but the accent fingers. [EDITOR’S NOTE: We like L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in Not a Cloud in Sight, $5.99 at Drugstore.com.] For the accent nails, starting at the moon of the nail, I created an outline to about the middle of the nail using my aqua polish, then completed the nail using a holographic shade. [Try Salon Perfect in Ivy Leauge, $5.98 at Walmart.com.] I then applied Swarovski stones in various directions to create the crystal designs.

EBONYCould you tell us a little about Her Nails Rock?

AC: It started as a mobile spa service, catering to women especially mothers and professional women that did not have time to go to the nail salon.  Many of  my first clients were referred to me by husbands looking to receive services for their wives.  I am currently working with Pretty in Paint, which is a nail tour I am a part of with my partner Sereeda McKoy.  We know that many of the designs we offer are not available in every city so the tour meets this need.  So far we’ve gone to DC, Atlanta Urban Outfitters, North Carolina and will be New York at in November.
