This week we caught up DIY freelance nail artist Jessica Yarbrough to chat her fun and festive nail art.

The Trend: Jumpstart your fall look with this simple DIY nail art. The various matte and shiny finishes look great with the vibrant orange and milky white designs. To add dimension to your manicure, try these chic ombre thumb accents. Check out the details below.

EBONY: How did you create the look?

Jessica Yarbrough: I began by painting the accent nails with an off-white milky shade. I then applied striping tape on the nails with the orange striped design. Using my orange polish, I painted over the striping tape. We like China Glaze Neon Nail Lacquer in Orange Knockout ($6.79; Sallybeauty.com). After the polish dried, I finished the design with a clear topcoat. For the thumbs, I used Sinful Colors in Whipped ($1.99; Walgreens.com), starting from the top then stroking down the nail to mid-center using the dry stroke technique.

EBONYDo you have any cool tips for nail art?

JY: This is a tip most people never even think of. But I use Elmer’s Glue as a base coat. This way, if I add glitter I can just peel it off and not have to deal with the glitter removal process!
