Beyond the courts, professional tennis star Naomi Osaka is a businesswomen and lifestyle entrepreneur. And soon, she'll introduce another life accomplishment—motherhood. On December 12, 2022, she took to social media to share a sonogram, letting the world know that she and rapper boyfriend, Cordae, were expecting their first child together. And although her little one hasn't arrived yet, she's already in her mommy bag with the launch of her maternity sleepwear collection with Victoria's Secret—making her the first person to have a solo collaboration with the women's intimates brand.
“I was shocked to hear this, but apparently I’m the first person to ever collaborate with Victoria’s Secret on a collection, and I’m so humbled and appreciative,” Osaka shared on social media. “Every piece in the collection is made out of recyclable material and the whole premise of the collection centers around chasing your dreams, so I hope you enjoy everything as much as I do.”
The "dreamlike" collection is a merger of comfy sleepwear that's also perfect for the expecting mother. Featuring pastel hues and cloud-like patterns, Osaka says that coming together with Victoria's Secret was inspired by her memories of shopping with the retailer as a kid.
"As a kid, I just remember spraying [body mist] all over myself. I probably smelled overwhelming at some point, but I just remember going into the store and smelling everything and seeing how pretty the displays were," the tennis star said.
Osaka has been very vocal about mental health over the years, often speaking out when post-match interviews have made her uncomfortable or just taking time to herself to refuel and practice self-care. The VS x Naomi Osaka line is also in alignment with that, as the 25-year-old hopes that it will motivate others to take time for themselves, too.
“VS X Naomi Osaka beautifully represents the tranquility and happiness that comes when you take a moment to embrace you. I believe everyone should prioritize self-care,” Osaka said in a statement.
