Insecure star, writer and supervising producer Natasha Rothwell was extremely critical of Kanye West's Coachella set on Easter.
West's performance was the first public showing of his weekly live gospel series Sunday Service, which include a predominantly Black choir and other music heavyweights performing the rapper's hits and renditions of popular R&B and gospel tracks.
"Yeah, no. I REFUSE to support a man who proudly supports a racist, homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic, Islamaphobic, anti-Semitic president whose policies endanger the very people who subsidized his career just because he's selling redemption dressed up in church clothes. GTFOH," Rothwell tweeted.
The former Saturday Night Live writer referred to West's support of President Donald Trump. Last year, the hip-hop producer received backlash for donning a MAGA hat. On several occasions, he reaffirmed his stance including in an April 2018 tweet, in which he wrote, "You don't have to agree with trump but the mob can't make me not love him... He is my brother. I love everyone."
Within the last year, the G.O.O.D. Music CEO has been harshly criticized by the Black community for his Trump support and comments about slavery being a choice.
Earlier this year, when the Sunday Services began circulating online, several cultural critics called West out for using African-American culture, specifically gospel music that was born from the slavery he mocked, for mainstream consumption.
