In celebration of New York Fashion Week 2018, EBONY will explore our favorite Black designers, models and trailblazers of the rag trade.

We sat down with local touring wardrobe stylist Krystle Rodriguez, who has toured with Usher, Taylor Swift, Madonna, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, N.E.R.D and more, to discuss her inspiration, her style, and more

Why is fashion important?

Fashion is important on so many different levels. It gives people a way to express their inner feelings on the outside without having to speak. Fashion is also something that is very personal, it’s a very accessible way to show your personality, and fashion is always changing. It’s something that connects all different walks of life. It’s honestly just another medium to express yourself, and it’s all about how you define it and make it work best for you. There’s no wrong or right way.

How has traveling the world influenced your fashion sense?

Travel has influenced my fashion sense in many ways. It’s a blessing to be able to view different walks of life and see the difference in influence by the same trends and styles. I’ve have incorporated many different style techniques I’ve seen in my travels and made them work for my style.

How would you describe your style? Where do you get your inspiration?

My style is a mix of feminine and masculine designs and silhouettes.  I get inspiration from my travels, friends, family, social media, fashion magazines and street style blogs.

What is the one clothing item you cannot live without and why?

My vintage denim Levis jacket, every time I come across a good one I buy it. I believe its a piece that is very versatile and can be worn with any outfit for any occasion.

What’s a style every woman should try at least once in her life?

I think every woman should try dressing up in a gown and heels to be worn in a setting of a ball or a black tie event. I think women are incredible when they embrace and show there full feminine side.

What is one thing you wish you knew about your style when you were younger?

There’s nothing I would have wanted to know, and I think my journey to finding my style has been incredible and I think knowing what to expect would have ruined the process.
