“WHITE FAMILIES MATTER.” “FOR RACE AND NATION.” “‘DIVERSITY’ IS A CODE WORD FOR GENOCIDE.”
Those are some of the messages that commuters in several states see on highway overpasses across the country, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
White supremacists across the country are using these signs to spread “anti-immigration,” “racist or anti-Semitic” messages to people, per CNN.
While banners being hung by white supremacist groups aren’t new, there has been a noticeable rise in the number of incidents in a ten month period, according to an Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism report that was released Thursday.
From May 2017 to March 2018, there have been 72 instances that the ADL has counted the number of times these banners being hung from overpasses, per the report.
“Groups associated with the alt-right segment of the white supremacist movement are responsible for the bulk of this activism, and accounted for 73 percent of the incidents,” the report states.
The extremist group, Evropa, is responsible for 40 percent of the reported incidents, having 28 occurrences in 13 states.
“These phrases are a sanitized version of the group’s true aim, the preservation of ‘white American identity’ and the promulgation of the idea that America was founded by white people for white people, and was not intended to be a multiracial or multicultural society,” the report states.
