A Dothan District commissioner was arrested and charged with third-degree assault after hitting a local television reporter.

Amos Newsome, 82, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon at an Alabama residence and transported to the Dothan City Jail. He was later released on a signature bond.

Newsome struck WTVY reporter Ken Curtis in the face following the city’s Commission meeting. As Newsome was leaving to get in his van, Curtis approached him to inquire about voter fraud allegations connected to his 2013 election.

When Curtis asked Newsome if he planned on resigning, Newsome struck him with an open hand. Curtis bled from his cheek as a result of the incident, which was caught on video by his cameraman.
