According to news reports, authorities are investigating 38-year-old Jacqueline Dixon and the incidents that led to the death of her estranged husband, Carl Dixon, 44, who was shot and killed in Jacqueline’s driveway in Selma, Alabama on Tuesday.
Authorities discovered the body when they arrived on the scene. Some news outlets reported an argument instigated by the husband may have taken place over cheating allegations and caused the altercation that led to his death.
Jacqueline told authorities he approached her in an aggressive manner and she shot him with a handgun.
Allegedly, there was a history of domestic violence in the couple’s relationship. The Tuscaloosa News reported Jacqueline told police at the scene of the crime that Carl was physically and verbally abusive toward her.
According to the Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier and the Dallas County District Attorney’s office, Jacqueline had an order of protection against her husband but at times did not take steps to enforce it. Currently, there are plans to present the case to a grand jury.
Collier told the media unless enforcement is pursued, the order of protection is essentially worthless. He went on to say that domestic violence is something people of all stripes have to deal with, and every situation can be preventable. He also praised the judicial system for its handling of this matter in an interview with AL.com
“It is pretty clear that the judicial system worked in this situation because the protection from abuse order was in place. I am not sure which judge handled the matter, but I applaud him for doing his job,’’ he said. Adding, “However, the order is simply a piece of paper if the complainant does not seek its enforcement. Regardless, it is a sad case and Selma PD joins the community in praying for both families.”
Some news reports state Jacqueline was charged with murder-domestic violence and is booked in county jail on a $100,000 bond.
