A 12-year-old Pennsylvania girl was shot and killed by a constable serving her father with an eviction notice.

The girl’s father, Donald Meyer, 57, pointed a loaded rifle at Constable Clark Steele. Steele fired a single shot in return, but the bullet struck Ciara Meyer after passing through her father’s arm. The child was home sick from school at the time of the shooting, police say.

Meyer was flown to the hospital for treatment and was charged with aggravated assault and other offenses. He was being served an eviction notice at the time of his daughter’s death.
