Former President Barack Obama will have a street in a predominately African-American community of South Los Angeles renamed in his honor, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Rodeo Road, not to be confused with Rodeo Drive, the street known for luxury goods, will be renamed Obama Boulevard thanks to a vote by The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday. President Herb Wesson proposed the potential name change in 2017 to honor the 44th president, who campaigned on the street at Rancho Cienega Sports Center and Park during his run for the Oval Office.
Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the name change following the vote. “We’re thrilled that Angelenos and visitors will forever be reminded of the legacy of President @BarackObama when traveling across L.A.,” he wrote.
It’s official: our City Council has voted to rename Rodeo Road to Obama Boulevard!

Wesson celebrated the honor by making a comparison between Obama and civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Also #OTD in 2008, @BarackObama became the first African-American presidential nominee from a major political party. Today our council gave final approval to our motion to rename Rodeo Road to Obama Boulevard. Proud to take this next step on a day that meant so much to so many. pic.twitter.com/fpGqikmQtD
