We haven’t heard a whole lot from Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson since he was confirmed for his new job. But he’s made news in a strange way in an unlikely place.

The retired neurosurgeon was on a two-day visit to Miami, part of a national listening tour to hear from local officials on HUD budget cuts executed by the Trump administration. But on the way down from the rooftop of an apartment building, Carson, Miami-Dade County Public Housing Director Michael Liu and five others got stuck in the elevator, the Miami Herald reported.

Meanwhile, Miami Heat legend Alonzo Mourning waited for Carson in the lobby of the building. He was scheduled to meet with the secretary to show him the complex, which reportedly cost $22.8 million and opened in September.  Mourning’s nonprofit, AM Affordable Housing developed the apartments along with Miami’s Housing Trust Group.

Carson and Liu had waited for Mourning, who was late for their meeting, but then went to view the rooftop, but as they returned to the ground floor, the doors to the elevator jammed.

Responders from the Miami-Dade fire department came to pry the doors open and Mourning apologized to Carson for the mishap. He left later for another meeting at a second Miami-area housing complex.
