The daughter of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was flabbergasted Monday morning after Newsweek posted a distasteful photo of the civil rights icon.
The 85-year-old publication posted a photo of MLK in a casket with the caption: “Has anybody here seen my old friend Martin?”
“Whites, it must frankly be said, are not putting in a similar mass effort to reeducate themselves out of their racial ignorance.” – Dr. King, Where Do We Go From Here, 1967 https://t.co/j4ZLkWJPqt

The photo was attached to a post which briefly mentioned the upcoming anniversary of MLK’s death. The media outlet deleted the tweet and issued an apology shortly after it was shared.
Earlier this afternoon we published an opinion piece with an insensitive image of Martin Luther King Jr. We sincerely apologize to the King family for this egregious error.

But King and many others were already left aghast.

Dr. King would have turned 89 years old on Jan. 15. Let’s hope the publication finds a redemptive way to commemorate the day.
