Biggie Smalls
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries

Remember Rappin’ Duke? Dah-ha, Dah-ha? You never thought hip-hop would take it this far…

But apparently Biggie Smalls did, thanks to a Brooklyn congressman who brought his lyrics to the House floor in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of his passing on Thursday.

Dropping the lyrics to B.I.G.’s 1994 hit “Juicy, ” Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, who represents New York’s 8th Congressional District, which includes the Bedford-Stuyvesant enclave in Brooklyn where the hip-hop icon grew up, honored his legacy.

“We know he went from negative to positive,” said Jeffries while standing next to an enlarged image of him. “And emerged as one of the world’s most important hip-hop stars. His rags to riches life story is the classic embodiment of the American dream.”

B.I.G., who was murdered March 9, 1997 in Los Angeles in a case that remains unsolved, much like that of his one-time friend Tupac Shakur, was heralded throughout the day on Thursday. Tributes were posted throughout social media by celebrities who knew him and fans who adored him.

In addition, his wife, Faith Evans unveiled the cover art for her upcoming collaboration with Biggie, created through archival content.
