California Prosecutor Who Implied that Maxine Waters Should be Shot Gets Suspended - EBONY

A California prosecutor was suspended from his job on Monday after posting disparaging comments on social media about U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters and former first lady Michelle Obama, CBS News reports.

Michael Seylem, who serves San Bernardino County, posted on Facebook and Instagram that Waters was “loud-mouthed” and wrote, “you would think someone would have shot this b*tch by now,” per CBS News.

An investigation is underway while Seylem is on leave, the district attorney’s office told CBS. He may lose his job over his posts.

Seylem posted a doctored picture of Michelle Obama holding a sign that read, “Trump grabbed my penis.” He also went after Mexicans by posting a picture of a man wearing a sombrero with a caption that said “Mexican word of the day: Hide,’ according to CBS News.

District Attorney Mike Ramos said he recently learned of Seylem’s comments after receiving complaints from other attorneys in his office and said that whole Seylem has a right to free speech, his views should be balanced.

“There’s a line that you cross that it impacts the work of your office,” Ramos told the AP. “The public has trust in us, and we have to be really careful.”

Seylem reportedly posted the comments in response to Waters telling the public to harass Cabinet officials from President Donald Trump’s administration.

Waters has faced increased death threats over her comments.
