Earlier this week, body camera footage showing the aftermath of a Cincinnati officer, Kevin Brown, 55, using a taser on Donesha Gowdy, 11, was released to the public. The officer told the minor, who allegedly shoplifted from Kroger grocery store on Aug. 6, Black neighborhoods don’t have grocery stores because of behavior like hers. The Cincinnati Police Department was scrutinized for the excessive use of force on the minor.
According to Sputnik International news, Brown was working at the supermarket as a part-time security guard, when the incident occurred. An internal review of the officer’s actions took place the day after the incident. Included in the review are recordings from Brown’s body camera that reveal conversations between Gowdy and the cop.
The footage shows the probe darts being removed from Gowdy’s back as she squirms in pain. Brown can be heard telling her to relax before lecturing her about her actions. “Sweetheart, the last thing I want to do is tase you like that. When I say stop, you stop. You know [you’re] caught; just stop.”
He continued, “That hurt my heart to do that to you. Then I got to listen to all these idiots out here in the parking lot telling me how I was wrong for tasing you. You broke the law and fled as I tried to apprehend you.”
“This is why there [are] no grocery stores in the Black community, because of all this going on,” Brown said.
According to an internal review of the incident, Brown violated policies set by the Cincinnati Police Department.
