“Why are Obama’s critics so dumb?” is the question conservative-turned-Obama-supporter Andrew Sullivan asks on the cover of this week’s issue of Newsweek—and it has caused an uproar with the GOP. Glenn Reynolds of the popular conservative blog Instapundit, has taken the weekly magazine to task not because the question posed is so low-brow, but that the cover photo “will do [President Obama] more harm than all the desperate sycophancy in the text.”

“He [President Obama] looks terrible, and surprisingly like [former President] Jimmy Carter, even down to the downturned liverish lips and incipient jowls.”
It’s hard to not ignore the deep-seeded racial tone pertaining to the slur “liver-lips”. How long can President Obama remain above the fray and remain silent on the constant racism of his conservative foes? Should he wait until after the 2012 election or is now the time to take the gloves off?
