As if the girlfriend of the late Philando Castile hasn’t endured enough adversity at the hands of the justice system, Diamond Reynolds was recently targeted by Sheriff Deputy Sgt. Tom McBroom.

Reynolds recently received an $800,000 settlement for the trauma she endured while watching her then-boyfriend being fatally shot by former officer Jeronimo Yanez in July 2016.

Following the payout from Anthony, Minn., the city of Roseville and the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust, Sgt. McBroom attacked a traumatized Reynolds on social media on Tuesday. ‘

“She needs to come off County and State Aid now that she has some cash,” he wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted. “It’ll be gone in 6 months on crack cocaine,”

McBroom’s words wreaked of racism and classicism as Ms. Reynolds has no record of using crack cocaine.

“I’ve seen them come to court. They’ve lost their children, but they come to court dressed to the nines with Michael Kors purses,” McBroom alleged in a statement to City Pages. “To be frank with you, they don’t have a pot to piss in. …I see it time and time again and I just shake my head and say why wasn’t there anyone to help that person?”

Egregious typecasting at its finest.
