The FBI was reportedly warned about the dangerous aspirations of 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz who killed 17 of his former peers at a Florida high school on Wednesday.

CNN reports the FBI was contacted about the 17-year-old in September. The former Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student commented on a video on the site saying he was going to be “a professional school shooter.”

YouTube video blogger Ben Bennight informed the FBI about Cruz’s post.

“I saw the story kind of go across my newsfeed, but I didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to it,” he recalled Thursday in a phone interview with CNN. “But when the FBI said it was the same name, the first thing that went through my mind was, ‘Wow, I hope you were at least watching this guy that I alerted you to months ago.”
The FBI never reported the comment to local police.
“No other information was included with that comment which would indicate a time, location or the true identity of the person who made the comment,” FBI special agent Robert Lasky said during a Thursday press conference. “The FBI conducted database reviews, checks but was unable to further identify the person who actually made the comment.”
Bennight wasn’t the only one who knew something was off with Cruz, who was expelled from his school last year. Teachers were also alerted to Cruz’s strange behaviors.

“There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus,” a math teacher told the Miami Herald.

Yet, on Thursday, President Trump placed the blame on his peers who suspected the student was dangerous.

“So many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school for bad and erratic behavior,” Trump wrote on Twitter on Thursday. “Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!”

Trump wrote the tweet as an addition to a Tuesday tweet about the repeal of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals act in an apparent attempt to further his anti-immigration agenda although Cruz’s ethnic background and origin have not been determined.

Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.
