A gunman reportedly opened fire at a Parkland, Florida high school on Wednesday, killing 17 people, according to ABC News.
CBS News confirmed that the shooter was Nikolas Cruz, 19, a former student of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School where the tragedy took place.
The Broward County Sheriff’s office confirmed that he was in custody. This is the 18th school shooting in 2018.
The sheriff’s office tweeted that “at least 14 victims” were taken to a nearby hospital.

“It’s catastrophic,” said Broward County Sheriff Scott Isreal. “There really are no words.”
Florida Gov. Rick Scott said he spoke to Sheriff Israel about the incident and that he’s headed to Broward County to get more information about the situation.

It’s unclear what the shooter’s motives were.
