By Adewole Abioye I recentlyI had the beautiful opportunity to sit with Phillip Jackson, Founder and Executive Director of the non-profit organization The Black Star Project based in the city of Chicago. The organization, which was formed in 1996, was born out of the racial academic achievement gap that exists amongst Blacks and their White counterparts in this country. Phillip Jackson who has had extensive experience working within the Chicago Public School system decided to directly engage outside the system to combat the educational crisis defeating our youth. The Black Star Project offers many programs locally to the community in efforts to improve the quality of education for Black youth not only in the city of Chicago but programs like the Million Father March have gone to become instituted programs in others cities across the nation. The Black Star Project is an organization that is committed to the future of its youth and betterment of the community.
