The Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan will honor the Montford Point Marines, the country's first African American group to enter the U.S. Marine Corps. Many of the Montford Point Marine soldiers will be present to discuss their experiences in breaking the color barrier, as well as their courageous acts of heroism during the World War II.

This past June found Congress awarding the Montford Point Marines the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian award the U.S. government bestows. For those looking to witness history, there is no charge to attend the program, which takes place October 21st.
