Just one day after referring to Haiti, El Salvador and African nations as “s**thole countries” President Donald Trump hosted an event on Friday in honor of the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

The ceremony was attended by a number of King’s descendants as well as a frighteningly large number of miscellaneous Black people. Among those attendees was the nephew of the late civil rights In icon Isaac Newton Farris, Jr. The CEO of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Non-Violent Social Change spoke with CNN on Friday.

Farris was asked about Trump’s recent remarks which disparaged the native countries of countless Black immigrants. On Thursday, the president reportedly asked: “Why do we want these people from all these s**thole countries here?”

The president’s tacky and racist remarks came in response to a senator’s request for Trump to reinstate the temporary protected status for Haitians and Salvadorans.

“I don’t think President Trump is a racist in the traditional sense as we know in this country,” Farris, Jr. told the media outlet. “I think President Trump is racially ignorant and racially uninformed. But I don’t think he is a racist in the traditional sense.”

When asked the implications of having a “racially ignorant” man as POTUS, Farris Jr., obviously mincing words, an ability the president is without, responded with: “it means we have him until 2020 or until something else happens.”
Shortly before Trump’s inauguration last January, Martin Luther King, Jr. III met with the then president-elect. The two reportedly discussed discriminatory voting ID regulations.
On Monday, Trump signed a bill deeming MLK’s birthplace a national historic park. MLK would have turned 89 on Jan. 15.
