Reverend Jesse Jackson has a recommendation for President Barack Obama before he exits the White House: Pardon Hillary Clinton.

While addressing a crowd filled with students, and administrators at the University of Michigan on Wednesday, Jackson remarked, “It would be a monumental, moral, and political mistake to pursue the prosecution of Hillary Clinton,” The Hill reports. “Secretary Clinton has not been legally accused, indicted, tried or convicted of anything.”

Jackson referenced President Gerald Ford’s decision to pardon President Richard Nixon in 1974.

“President Obama should follow President Ford’s example and offer a preemptive full pardon,” Jackson said. referencing the famous U-M alumnus. “President Ford said we don’t need him for trophy. We need to move on. President Nixon wasn’t convicted of a crime. He didn’t apply for a pardon. [Ford] did it because he thought it would be best for the country,” Jackson said.

After resigning as president in 1974, Nixon dodged impeachment on charges of obstruction of justice in the Watergate scandal.

Clinton could be tried in court for mishandling classified information tied to an e-mail server she used during her Secretary of State tenure. After investigating, the FBI twice cleared Clinton during her presidential campaign, however an appeals court could revive the lawsuit.

Jackson, who visited the campus to be honored in a symposium titled ’50 Years of Civil Rights Leadership’, reportedly consoled students at an anti- Donald Trump rally on campus as well.

Months before Trump was elected, he implored President Obama “not to pardon Clinton and her co-conspirators for their many crimes against the country and against society itself.”

The president-elect also vowed during his campaign that he will appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Clinton. But has not spoken about that promise since the election, saying only that he would concentrate on other domestic affairs.

Jackson has been a major supporter of both former President Bill and Hillary Clinton for years. In ’09, when Obama appointed Clinton  Secretary of State, Jackson said the president had made “a wise choice” and that she would “enhance his administration in multiple ways.” In July, Jackson led the chant, “It’s healing time, it’s hope time, it’s Hillary time” at the Democratic National Convention.
