In the year of our #LEMONADE, we should know by now that you don’t play with Black women and you certainly don’t steal from them. That remains especially true for our First Lady, Michelle Obama. The highlight of the first day of the Republican National Convention was Melania Trump — and not for a good reason, according to JET, Mrs. Trump was at first praised until many realized her Monday night speech sounded a bit too close to Michelle Obama’s 2008 Democratic National Convention speech.
Republicans, of course, deny that any part of the speech was plagiarized by Mrs. Trump, but Black Twitter didn’t hesitate to back up the FLOTUS’ with the hashtag #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes. Pulling from all aspects of Black culture from history (Martin Luther King, Jr and Sojourner truth) to pop culture (Queen Latifah, Drake, Jay-Z), the quotes show once again just how correct we come on social media. Take a look at the most hilarious responses, including some from our favorite speech maker, Jesse Williams.
