After receiving complaints about an unlicensed hot dog stand run by Jaequan Faulkner, 13, the city of Minneapolis decided to help the teen obtain a license rather than shut him down, reports Fox News.

Faulkner opened up his stand in front of his home at the beginning of the summer in an effort to raise money to purchase new school clothes. The business is called, Mr. Faulkner’s Old Fashioned Hot Dogs, and became popular after some officers from the “Bike Cops for Kids” program encouraged people to visit his stand, according to Kare 11.

After the all the attention the stand received a complaint was sent to the health department because the 13-year-old was selling food without a permit.

“When I realized what it was, I said, ‘No, we’re not going to just go and shut him down’ like we would an unlicensed vendor,” Minneapolis Environmental Health Director Dan Huff said, according to KCPQ. “We can help him get the permit. Let’s make this a positive thing and help him become a business owner.”

The officials not only helped him get the $87 to pay for the permit they also enabled him to get other things he needs to safely prepare food for the public including a hand sanitizer and meat thermometers.

The stand opened on Monday (July 16) for the first time with a permit.
