Sonya Harris and her disabled daughter, Miss DJ, are without transportation after the mother’s car was totaled in a hit-and-run accident, according to Detroit’s Fox 2 News.

Harris is the sole caregiver of Miss DJ, 27, who has serious health problems including blindness and seizures. Her daughter requires 24-hour care.

“She can’t walk, she can’t talk, I have to do everything,” Harris told the local station. “She has the mind of a 5- to 6-month-old baby.”

Miss DJ needs to be fed, cleaned and have her diaper changed. More strain has been placed on Harris without the Dodge Avenger, which cost her three years of savings.

Although the car is gone, she’s thankful her daughter wasn’t inside during the accident.”I just thank God she wasn’t in the car that day the way she had hit me she would probably be dead right now,” Harris said.

Sue Genrich, a close friend, has been providing rides for Harris but knows the mom will need a car of her own to care for Miss DJ correctly.

Genrich is hoping the community can help “her with something to get from A-Z” because Harris isn’t one to ask for assistance when she needs it.
