Sammie Anderson filed an excessive force complaint against Texas’ DeSoto Police Department after officers allegedly brutalized her family when she called 911 for her to calm a heated argument between two of her sons.

According to Dallas News, the incident took place in early August when Anderson told her friend to call the police believing that the dispute could turn physical. She alleged that her sons were calm and separated by the time the authorities arrived on the scene.

In the dashcam video released on Monday, however, the situation became heated within seconds of police interference. The cops arrived and immediately drew tasers on the family and ordered everyone to lie face down on the street.

“I’m thinking back of my mind, ‘I called, and I asked for them to come, and now I have no control over what happens to my boys,'” Anderson said to WFAA-TV. “This situation is out of control and one of my sons could get killed.”

The family was visibly confused and fearful over the weapons they reportedly assumed were guns. While attempting to comply with the officers’ commands some of the family rolled over on and got up. At that point, one of Anderson’s sons was tasered, and the other two were arrested.

Anderson and her two sons lost their jobs due to the days spent in jail and seeking medical attention.

There is an ongoing investigation of the encounter but DeSoto police Chief Joseph Costa asserted that his officers did nothing wrong in their response to the call. A 911 call released on Tuesday revealed that the caller said one of the boys had a sledgehammer as a weapon.

Anderson raised her sons to respect and honor police but regrets calling for help.

“And I’m told by family members and other people that’s the worst thing I could do, being an African American mom with four African American sons. And it shouldn’t be that way,” she said. When I think about all the mothers out there who lost their sons the one thing I can walk away with is that mine are still here. Even though you bruised them, they’re still here. Even though you hurt them, they’re still here. They’re still here.”
