There are currently 44 African American members of Congress. Next year there will be three more, to bring the total to 47. That will be the highest number of Blacks in Congress ever. Depending on whether or not Republican Mia Love joins the Black Caucus, the CBC will have the largest number of members in its history at either 46 or 47 members.

Depending on how many House Democrats there are in 2015 (right now there are 199) the Black Caucus could become 25% of the House Democratic Caucus. But, in regards to voting power and the power to control the agenda, the biggest problem for African Americans Congress is that — barring an unexpected shock on November 4th — all but three are likely to serve in the minority in the U.S. House in 2015.
