The Wilmington chapter of the NAACP is calling on state officials to shed more light on the death of a wheelchair-bound man who was killed by police in September.

Officials say Jeremy McDole refused an order to raise his hands and instead reached for a weapon. Officers responded by opening fire.

On Tuesday, Wilmington police announced the completion of their investigation into the death but did not disclose what they found. According to Delaware Online, court filings revealed that McDole had gunshot residue on his hand and clothing when he was shot. The news was the first piece of information released since the incident refuting the family’s claims that McDole was unarmed at the time of the shooting.

“The Wilmington Branch NAACP is outraged that elected officials and the Attorney General’s office have been very quiet concerning the shooting of Mr. McDole and state elected public safety members have said nothing,” Wilmington NAACP Vice President Ken Dyden wrote in a news release.

Dryden said the issue was transparency. In Delaware, police reports are not part of the public record. Dryden is hoping his call to action will get the full report released. He hopes to be able to compare it side-by-side with the video.
