Some New York City officials are pushing to get a Bronx street renamed after Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz.

Bronx Councilman Riche Torres and Guzman’s family are expected to be in attendance when the announcement is made.  Guzman, 15,  was tragically killed just blocks from his home when he was attacked, allegedly by Trinitarios gang members who stabbed and hacked him with machetes over a video that might have included one of the member’s sister.Reportedly, the attackers mistakenly thought  Guzman had taken  part in the video. The gruesome video of Guzman’s death captured the nation’s attention, and those allegedly responsible for the act are currently in jail awaiting trial.

Since Guzman’s death, the outcry from the community has been huge. A mural was made in his honor, and vigils are held often to remember the youth tragically taken from his family. Bronx rappers such as Cardi B and A Boogie have shared their  thoughts about the situation on social media.  The New York Yankees recently held a special ceremony in the teenager’s  honor. According to News 12 The Bronx, Guzman was a huge fan of the team. A Go Fund Me campaign was set up to help the family.
