The New York Times announced via Twitter on Tuesday tech reporter Quinn Norton would be joining the publication as an opinion writer. Hours later, she was fired.

Norton’s on-boarding was announced by the Times on Tuesday afternoon. She was bought on to “lead opinion writer on the power, culture and consequences of technology.” HuffPost reports Twitter users soon uncovered the writer has shared some questionable tweets in her past. In addition to touting the ‘n-word’ and repeatedly using homophobic slurs, Norton also once shared she’s found companions in neo-Nazis on the social media site.

Norton, who’s extensively covered the Anonymous and Occupy movements for other well-known publications, also re-tweeted a post condemning Obama’s presidency because he’s Black. The tweet referred to the 44th president as a “n**ger.”

A representative for the Times’ provided a statement on Norton’s termination to HuffPost.

“Despite our review of Quinn Norton’s work and our conversations with her previous employers, this was new information to us,” the Times’ editorial page director James Bennett told HuffPost. “Based on it, we’ve decided to go our separate ways.”
