Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari avoided answering a reporter’s question on Monday about President Donald Trump’s remarks about “sh*thole* countries.”

In January, reports surfaced that Trump was unhappy that immigrants were coming into the U.S. from “sh*thole countries,” such as Haiti and some African nations.

Buhari, who is the first sub-Saharan African leader invited to talk with the Trump administration, said he wasn’t sure if Trump made the comments, BBC reports.

“I’m not sure about, you know, the validity of whether that allegation against the president is true or not,” he said. “So the best thing for me is to keep quiet.”

During the White House conference, Trump said that the two did not discuss the alleged comments.

“The [Nigerian] president knows me and he knows where I’m coming from,” Trump said. “And you do have some countries that are in very bad shape and very tough places to live in.”
