On Monday, a grand jury ruled that no felony crime was committed by the Waller County sheriff’s office in connection to the July 2015 death of a 28-year-old Black woman while in custody.

Sandra Bland died a couple of days after being detained during a routine traffic stop. Medical examiner’s ruled her death a homicide. But prosecutor Darrell Jordan said the Waller County grand jury reached no decision on whether the trooper who arrested Bland should face charges.

The grand jury will reconsider that issue in January.
