An official for North Korea warned that the world should take his country’s threat to test a nuclear weapon above ground literally.
CNN reports the official, Ri Yong Pil, said that the threat made last month by the country’s foreign minister last month should not be taken lightly.
North Korea “has always brought its words into action,” Ri said.
Ri Yong Ho made the threat while speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in NYC in September. Ho, the country’s foreign minister, brought up the possibility of North Korea testing a powerful hydrogen bomb over the Pacific Ocean.
The remarks were made a few hours after President Trump threatened to “totally destroy” the country in a speech to the UN.
“The foreign minister is very well aware of the intentions of our supreme leader, so I think you should take his words literally,” Ri told CNN in Pyongyang.
Earlier last month, North Korean carried out the strongest of its six-ever nuclear tests and claimed to have used a hydrogen bomb.
As a result, the United Nations imposed fresh sanctions on the country.
Despite U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s claims that they’re open, Ri implied that no diplomatic channels between the U.S. and North Korea exist.
