NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said a grand jury may investigate the death of a 22-year-old unarmed driver shot and killed by police after being pulled over on a busy highway near LaGuardia Airport on his way home from work last week. Before the Columbus Day parade, Kelly spoke with reporters about the case, saying that not enough is known about the shooting of Army National Guardsmen Noel Polanco by an Emergency Service Unit detective and that a grand jury investigation will be needed to "determine precisely what happened there."

While Commissioner Kelly is not officially calling for a grand jury probe, a probe into Polanco's death should happen as early as Thursday. The 22-year-old was on his way home to Corona from his job at the Ice Lounge in Astoria early Thursday morning when he was shot by Det. Hassan Hamdy during a traffic stop on the Grand Central Parkway.
