New Arrests Follow Police Rape Protests in Paris

At least 25 people were arrested overnight Monday during riots in suburban Paris as protests continued over the alleged rape of a male citizen by a police officer.

RFI reports that twelve people were arrested in Bondy and Epinay-sur-Seine in the department of Seine Saint-Denis for throwing projectiles and firebombs. Eleven others were arrested in Yvelines.

The unrest follows several nights of violence, triggered by the brutal assault and arrest of a local community worker only known as Theo.

The youth worker reportedly suffered severe injuries to his rectum when he was arrested to the point where he needed major surgery. He currently remains in the hospital.

A police officer has been placed under investigation for rape. He is suspected of deliberately shoving a truncheon into the young man’s rectum. Three other officers were also charged with “deliberate violence in a group.”
