Chicago officials have released police reports connected to the officer-involved shooting death of 18-year-old Paul O’Neal.

The reports detail what happened the day the teen was shot and killed by a CPD officer after a high speed chase.

Body cam and dashcam videos of the shooting were released two weeks ago. The footage sparked protests in the city, with activists, family and community members taking to the streets to demand justice.

Police say officers chased O’Neal into Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood on July 28 after he allegedly stole a vehicle from suburban Bolingbrook, Ill. Bodycam footage shows the events leading up to O’Neal’s fatal shooting.

The reports are nearly identical in nature. They each black out the officers’ names and star numbers, a move CPD says is due to death threats received by police.

All three reports say O’Neal rammed his vehicle into a squad car then ignored verbal commands during the pursuit, according to ABC 7. One of the reports also said he was reaching into his waistband, and the officer who shot him believed he had a weapon.

However, O’Neal was not armed, and those shots may have been fired by other officers as they shot at the vehicle O’Neal was attempting to escape in.

The reports also reveal that O’Neal was not alone in the vehicle. The police report indicates that an unidentified passenger was arrested on the scene.
