President Obama’s impending departure from the White House is just over a month away, and everyone wants to know what’s on his mind as we prepare for a world without the Brother-in-Chief.
So he sat down with Comedy Central host Trevor Noah in the White House for a special “The Daily Show” appearance which aired Monday night that talked about several topics of concern as he makes his exit from the Oval Office.
In the 25 minute interview, the typically satirical, but this time serious Noah dove right in as he asked Obama about Russia’s influence in the recent election. “None of this should be a big surprise,” Obama explained. “This was reported on before the election.” Obama further pointed out that during some of his campaign events, President-elect Trump mentioned wanting Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails.
The two later discussed other pressing topics. President Obama touched on the Affordable Care Act, urging citizens to sign up as soon as possible. While Noah voiced his concerns with the new administration potentially dissembling Obamacare, the president shed light on the issue.
“If you sign up now, You’ll have insurance for a year,” Obama explained. “It’s better than not having insurance for a year.” He also went on to mention that there are qualities in Obamacare that are included in health care plans that citizens have through their jobs. “They would miss it if they didn’t have it,” Obama said.
As for life after Presidency, Obama plans to make a smooth transition into society. “I think it’s important for me to recharge. It’s important for me to reflect. To get back in my wife’s good graces,” he said with laughter. “Take a decent vacation and spend some time with her. I’ll do some writing and speaking.”
As President Obama takes some much needed personal time, he won’t completely leave the spotlight. “I don’t anticipate that I suddenly just vanish but, I think it’s important to give the upcoming administration the space and to give the public clarity about what it is they are trying to do.” Obama said.
Obama ended the interview on a light note. He told Noah: “I will say, I resent how young and good looking you are. I used to think of myself on those terms and it’s been downhill for quite some time.”
