Amid the devastation occurring in Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria, a doctor claims federal aid workers organized a “spa day” for themselves while on the clock.

On Thursday, The Rachel Maddow Show reported devastated Puerto Ricans were recruited to provide luxury services at a discounted rate to relief workers. The spa day was orchestrated by Health and Human Services medical staff and took place while workers were on the clock and should have been aiding  victims of the natural disaster. They even hosted their rest and relaxation time in medical triage tents.

Senior medical officer Dr. Khanna–whose first name has not been revealed–served as a relief worker for two decades. She quit in light of the egregious misconduct she witnessed in Puerto Rico.  Khanna exposed her former colleagues’ apathetic activity in her resignation letter.

“I find this gross misuse of taxpayer funds and abuse of our privileged positions personally abhorrent,” the physician who worked with the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) wrote in her letter. “I can no longer serve with honor.”

NDMS is an agency which operates under Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Defense and Veterans Affairs Departments.

The organization claimed they were looking into the misconduct.
