City correction officer criminally charged with lying about not leaving her post when an inmate 'baked' to death

A city correction officer was criminally charged Monday with lying about not leaving her post while an inmate “baked to death” in his 101-degree cell.

Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson charged Carol Lackner, 35, with falsifying business records, filing a false instrument and official misconduct. She was suspended for 30 days by the city Correction Department earlier this year after the Feb. 15 death of former U.S. Marine Jerome Murdough.
