A journal entry from a young student has gone viral for the blunt manner with which he communicated disappointment in his teacher’s Christopher Columbus lesson. A student by the name of King Johnson was evidently displeased when his teacher propelled the notoriously false perception of Columbus as a savior.
And he let her know it.
“Today was not a good learning day,” King wrote. “Blah, blah, blah. I only wanted to hear you not talking. You said something wrong and I can’t listen when I hear lies. My mom said that the only Christofer we acknowledge is Wallace. Because Columbus didn’t find our country, the Indians did. I like to have Columbus Day off, but I want you not to teach me lies. That is all. My question for the day is: How can white people teach black history?”
The teacher, who didn’t regard King’s critique, simply commented she was disappointed in the journal. His response?
“Ok.”
The internet lived for King’s straightforwardness.
