A teenage, first-time offender from Georgia will spend years behind bars over a pair of stolen shoes.

Dayonn Davis, at 15 years old, stole a pair of Nike Oreos from a vendor attempting to sell them on Facebook. Now 18, he will serve five years with 10 years on probation for the robbery conviction, according to the Ledger-Enquirer.

“I don’t get that,” Judge Bobby Peters said as he sentenced Davis. “Must be some valuable shoes.”

According to prosecutor Sadhana Dailey, Davis contacted the Facebook seller to meet up for a potential transaction. Bringing a friend with him, Davis tried on the sneakers, and upon realizing they fit, told the seller, “These shoes is took.” Davis’ accomplice then drew a pistol, and everyone ran.

Police quickly tracked him down, finding the stolen kicks in his closet.

“He’s been extremely remorseful,” said defense attorney Susan Henderson. “He’s got his life on track now.”

Davis’ mother also defended her son, saying he was with “the wrong person.” The judge wasn’t having it, responding, “Maybe he’s the wrong person. He’s the one with the shoes in his closet.”
