June is National Black LGBT month, and The Root celebrates Black and gay notables who made coming out cool. Among the 20 names on the list is former CNN anchor Don Lemon. The journalist came out during a telecast on the network last year, and recently made a move to BET News. Academy-Award nominated director and producer Lee Daniels—most known for his films Precious and The Monstor's Ball—also nails a spot on the list. Daniels is the first Black gay man to be nominated for an Academy Award. Actress and comedienne Wanda Sykes makes the list as well, along with sermonizers Vanessa M. Brown and Joseph Tolton of New York's Rivers and Reboroth Church. The pastors made headlines for creating a ministry for gay and lesbian parishioners. Dee Rivers, writer and director of the award-winning film Pariah also earns a spot.
