Since he took office, President Donald J. Trump has been vehemently defending himself against claims that he is racist.

And since he’s taken office, his words, behaviors and policies have required him to continue to do so.

NBC reports that Trump uttered, “No, No. I’m not a racist,” after reporters asked him to respond to those who accuse him of being one.

“I am the least racist person you have ever interviewed. That I can tell you.”

Trump also rejected making the statements that reporters attributed to him, but did not say which statements were and were not his.

“Did you see what various senators in the room said about my comments?” he asked, referring to lawmakers who were meeting with him in the Oval Office on Thursday. “They weren’t made.”

Trump is accused of using the term “sh**hole” to describe a variety of African countries recently during a meeting on immigration with a bipartisan group of six senators. He is said to have also questions the need to admit more Haitians to the country, according to those who were briefed on the meeting.

The president is also accused of saying he would rather admit immigrants from countries like Norway instead.

The White House has not denied the accusations, although Trump has spoken out on how some aspects of the meeting was depicted.

A member of Trump’s camp said the president spent Thursday evening contacting friends and advisers to see how they felt about his remarks. The news outlet is reporting that Trump wasn’t apologetic, but did deny that he was racist. Instead, he blamed the media for “distorting his meaning,” according to the confidant who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Sen.Dick Durbin of Illinois was the only Democrat at Thursday’s meeting.

He referred to Trump’s remarks as “vile, hate-filled and clearly racial in their content.” He said Trump used the most vulgar term “more than once.”
