Afghan officials reported on Sunday that the U.S. gave $860,000 in cash to the families of those who were killed by Staff Sgt. Robert Bales two weeks ago. The money includes $50,000 for each of 16 people who were killed, as well as $10,000 for each of the six who were injured. Is it now believed that Bales committed the shootings in two separate trips in two separate villages off base. If convicted he could face the death penalty.

Afghans insist Bales, who faces 17 counts of murder, be brought to Afghanistan for his trial, but the U.S. confirmed he will be charged here.

Is this just? Should Bates stand trial in Afghanistan instead of America?
