A holiday wish came true for Veronica Marché Miller, a fashion design graduate student at Drexel University. Miller recently unveiled her original collection of illustrated Christmas cards on the shelves of national retailers T.J. Maxx, Marshall’s and Home Goods this holiday season. Jack of all trades, Miller is an aspiring fashion designer, talented illustrator and established writer.

In 2011, she created a holiday card collection “Fabulous Brown Girls,” featuring fashionable women of color celebrating the Christmas season — by decorating a tree, delivering presents or toasting with a holiday drink. Miller began selling her cards on RedBubble’s website, an online art gallery and commerce site. Her collection quickly gained popularity among buyers.

“The retail outlets reached out to me and expressed an interest in adding more diversity to their holiday card selection,” she said. “As a woman of color, I am familiar with the holiday cards that are targeted toward Black shoppers. A lot of them have a very serious tone with rigid illustrations. I wanted to create cards that were joyful, fun and more reflective of my personality, with illustrations that conveyed a sense of movement and excitement.” Miller provided the retail stores with four designs.

In addition to retail store shelves, Miller’s “Fabulous Brown Girls” collection will be available on T.J. Maxx gift bags, wine sleeves and via her website.
