Two sisters tied have been charged after burning a 5-year-old girl in a voodoo ritual, ABC News reports.

According to reports, the girl was permanently disfigured as a result of the incident. The women reportedly performed the ritual in an effort to rid the girl of a demon causing her to misbehave, police said.

The woman also reportedly threatened to cut off the head of the girl’s 8-year-old’s brother with a machete.

The boy told authorities that his sister was tied down on more than one occasion while the two sisters blew fire over the child’s face and cut her arm in the collar area with a needle-like object. According to police, the sisters drew blood.

The girl also told investigators that the women poured a substance that stung over her eyes.

51-year-old Peggy LaBossiere and 40-year-old Rachel Hilaire of East Bridgewater, Mass., denied injuring the girl, as well as threatening the boy. The pair pleaded not guilty last week to mayhem, assault and other charges.

Police say LaBossiere is a client of the girl’s mother, who is a hairstylist. The child’s mom is of Haitian descent.

The sisters are due back in Brockton Superior Court on Wednesday.
