The media nearly went into a coronary after the appearance of Joe Oliver during this Trayvon Martin case. The 53-year-old adviser made a splash after he stepped forward to support George Zimmerman through all of the hoopla. Now, it has been announced that Zimmerman's friend has stepped down as his biggest supporter. Hoping to quell the "racial element" involved with this incident, Oliver, whose wife is friends with Zimmerman's mother-in-law, insisted that he made his role clear from the start.

After making quite a few television appearances, Oliver's time on MSNBC's "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" was the most explosive. Oliver admitted that he and Zimmerman were co-workers, and denied that someone was paying him to speak out. O'Donnell, with New York Times columnist Charles Blow and Washington Post columnist Jonathan Capehart, strongly questioned how well he actually knew Zimmerman personally.
