Gas Prices Surge Amidst Fuel Shortage

A cyber-attack on the Colonial Pipeline has resulted in a fuel shortage and a surge in gas prices, USA Today reports. The ransomware attack forced operators of the pipeline, which delivers fuel across the East Coast, to shut down on Saturday. It is believed that panic buying is what is causing the shortage more than the Colonial Pipeline’s temporary suspension of operations.

Judge’s Ruling Permits Longer Sentence For Derek Chauvin

Wednesday, Judge Peter Cahill ruled that there were four aggravating factors in the murder of George Floyd. The factors include Chauvin’s abuse of a position of trust and authority, Floyd being treated with “particular cruelty,” Chauvin committing a crime with three or more people, and that the offense took place in the presence of children. The ruling will allow for longer sentences, CNN reports. As a result, Chauvin could face up to 40 years in prison for the second-degree murder conviction, 25 years for the third-degree murder charge, and 10 years for the manslaughter charge.

Soulja Boy Accused Of Sexual Assault, Battery

A woman, who identified herself as an ex-girlfriend of Soulja Boy, filed a lawsuit in California on Tuesday in which she accused the “Crank That” rapper of abuse and sexual battery, TMZ reports. During one incident, which is alleged to have occurred in 2015 while the woman was pregnant with Soulja’s child, she accused him of beating her so badly that she miscarried.

Andra Day Reveals Battle With Pornography And Sex Addiction

In an interview with InStyle, actress Andra Day disclosed her past struggles with pornography and sex addiction. As a result of her personal battles, Day says that she “didn’t want any element of sexualization” when portraying Billie Holiday in The United States vs. Billie Holiday. “I had come out of something in my own life—dealing with porn addiction, sex addiction,” Day said. “I’m being very, very candid with you because I’m not the only one. But I knew I wanted all of that very much gone.”

Colin Kaepernick To Release New Book About Abolishing Police

Colin Kaepernick’s publishing company, Kaepernick Publishing, will release its first book this fall. Tuesday, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback announced that the book will be titled, Abolition For The People: The Movement For A Future Without Policing And Prison. He edited the collection as well as authored one of the essays. “This anthology builds on decades of organizing and writing against policing & prison & features the work of over 30 contributors,” Kaepernick tweeted. The title is slated for release on October 12.
