In April Ryan’s case, since the beginning of the Trump administration, covering the news has sometimes meant becoming the news herself. But today the news is good for her as the veteran American Urban Radio Networks White House correspondent will be working with CNN as a political analyst.
She tweeted the announcement on Monday and the network also confirmed the news to EBONY.com.

Last week, Ryan made headlines when she got into a heated exchange with White House press secretary Sean Spicer over her asking questions about how alleged connections between the Trump administrations and Russia were being perceived. As the exchange built, he snapped “stop shaking your head,” which led to a firestorm of criticism of the spokesman for seemingly condescending to her while she was simply asking questions related to a news topic. The dustup was part of what inspired the #Blackwomenatwork hashtag last week.
Also, in February, during a news conference with President Trump, Ryan was asked to set up a meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus, as if she had some special personal connection to the group. “Do you want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours,” Trump asked her.
Regarding the Spicer incident, she told CNN that she was shaking her head “in disbelief” at the way Spicer was responding to her. “It was a simple question; it was a legitimate question.”
